In view of the grid integration of decentralized and regenerative energy producers and types of sector coupling, such as electric vehicles, power-to-heat or power-to-gas, the electrical energy system is faced with new challenges. In the working group Grids and Energy Systems (German: Arbeitsgruppe Netze und Energiesysteme, AGNES) we do research on technical solutions for grid monitoring, grid control and grid management of power systems. Our research focuses on the cellular approach, through self-organizing hierarchical grid cells across all voltage levels and the availability of flexibilities through sector coupling.
In research projects, we explore possible solutions for the integration of electric vehicles and renewable energy systems into the electrical grid, the integration of intelligent grid and measurement technology and the use of AI-based systems for grid operation and the generation of green hydrogen. Due to the application-oriented nature of our research work, these solutions are always verified in the field after extensive validation in the laboratory.
